Not to be outdone by the PlayStation 4′s record-breaking European sales, Microsoft’s Xbox One has been crowned Australia’s fastest selling console of all time, according to the findings of the market research firm NPD Group.
The company found that 65,917 Xbox One consoles were sold within the first three days of launch, more than doubling the record that was previously held by the Nintendo’s Wii in 2006 with the sale of 32,900 units within its first three days on the market. This success might come as a bit of a surprise to both consumers and Microsoft and Sony themselves, as SCE Australia’s managing director Michael Ephraim had previously touted that per-orders for the PS4 outperform every Sony platform to ever launch in the region.
With games retailer EB Games is calling demand for the Xbox One “unprecedented”, Jeremy Minton of Microsoft Australia is attributing the early success to “listening to the Australian community.”
Australians were among some of the first in the world to purchase the Xbox One console as it launched progressively across 13 separate countries on November 22nd, and it’s clear to see that the world welcomed the platform with open and eager arms.
