Microsoft is considering a system that will reward Xbox Live gamers who display good social behavior and contribute to the platform’s online community. During an ID@Xbox Q&A session at GDC in San Francisco, Frank Savage, partner and development lead at Microsoft discussed the idea of not just punishing players for bad behavior, but rewarding those who make exhibit good sportsmanship.
If you have a good rep and “you’re this amazing player everyone wants to be with,” Savage says Xbox Live’s reputation algorithm may recognize these traits and bless you with an unspecified reward. Savage said it’s Microsoft’s way of saying, “thanks for being such a good member of the community.”
While this concept is still in its infancy, the idea is to offer something beyond punishment towards bad players. This could possibly be an extension of Xbox Live’s player reputation system that was revealed last year.
