Ubisoft officially announces Far Cry 4 – Coming to Xbox One November 18, 2014

Ubisoft has announced, as was rumored back in March, that Far Cry 4 is indeed a thing. Not only is it a thing, but it has been a thing for quite some time, as it will be landing on store shelves later this year.

Shipping on November 18th, Far Cry 4 is set to “deliver the most expansive and immersive Far Cry experience ever.” Unlike the tropical islands and African savannas of the previous installments, this time the player is set in Kyrat, “a breathtaking, perilous and wild region of the Himalayas struggling under the regime of a despotic self-appointed king”.

There will be “a vast array of weapons, vehicles and animals” to wield, drive and slaughter as you tour the game’s “exotic open world landscape”. Given the open-world nature of the Far Cry games, combined with it now taking place in the Himalayas, I wonder if the mountains will hold up when compared with those of Skyrim. (I sure hope they do.)

“Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans’ expectations,” executive producer Dan Hay commented. “Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we’re eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months.”

Far Cry 4 is set to release on November 18th, 2014 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, and PC. Clearly confident in their title, Ubisoft already has their pre-order incentives lined up. Like with Far Cry 3, ordering early will grant you access to a collection of single player DLC campaign missions with the lovable, if not somewhat annoying, Hurk in an expansion titled “Herk’s Redemption.”

Far Cry 4 pre-order dlc

I’m sure the trailer Ubisoft will no doubt be showing on their E3 stage will get me excited, but after my experience with Far Cry 3, I think I’m probably going to let this one slip for a little while. I mean, with Halo, The Division, Destiny, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Evolve, Super Smash Bros. U, Alien Isolation and Sunset Overdrive all set to release around that same 2-3 month window, I doubt I’ll have enough time to finish all these games as is.

But what are your thoughts/hopes/fears? Does the announcement of Far Cry 4 get you excited? Or are you going to be waiting for a gameplay trailer before getting in on those pre-order incentives?
