Respawn Entertainment’s new first-person shooter, Titanfall launched at the end of last week in the UK and Xbox One sales jumped by around 96 percent, according to GFK Chart-Track statistics. Call it the Titanfall effect, call it clever marketing — make no mistake about it, this is a huge win for Microsoft, Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts.
In fact, the run and gun futuristic shooter has become the biggest release of 2014 so far in the UK, with more than double Electronic Art’s FIFA 14, which held the number one spot across the pond until Titanfall shot it down.
If you’re not completely sold on the idea of a single game making a such a huge difference, think again. The recently released Xbox One Titanfall bundle, which includes a digital copy of the game was responsible for 70 percent of the console’s sales last week in the UK. Titanfall’s Australian servers recently went online last week and considering the Xbox One’s high level of success in the land down under, we’re curious to see if Respawn’s shooter manages to catch on in a country historically known for its restrictions against violent video games.
Neither Microsoft, Respawn, no EA have released any specific sales figures, it’ll be interesting to see how the Xbox One’s biggest release to date performed in the console’s homeland.
