The Xbox One’s sales more than double in June – New price-point and 2014 holiday lineup to blame

Microsoft announced back in May that they would be opening up the option for consumers to purchase an Xbox One without the bundled Kinect at a $100 lower price-point. This, no doubt, brought about fewer hardware sales for the month of May, but it looks as though the move has payed off, as a post on Xbox Wire states that the new SKU has generated a 200+% sales boost for the month of June.

The sales spike is accredited to the combination of the software lineup announced at E3 and the new $399 offering. No exact totals were given, but since the new SKU launched on June 9th, sales of the Xbox One have “more than doubled in the US, compared to sales in May, and solid growth in Xbox 360 sales.” It’s worth noting at these numbers are based on internal data from Microsoft’s retail calendar and its sold-through numbers – not their shipped-to numbers.

The post went on to discuss the console’s forthcoming software lineup.

We’re excited to welcome so many fans to Xbox this summer and we can’t wait for them to get their hands on the wide selection of new games available this year on Xbox One, including Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Sunset Overdrive, Forza Horizon 2, and Ori and the Blind Forest. Xbox One is the only place you can play these games along with creative independent titles and blockbusters such as Assassin’s Creed Unity, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Destiny, Evolve, Grand Theft Auto V, and dozens more. We’re honored that Xbox One was awarded with the best games line-up of 2014 by game critics at E3 and our fans have a lot of amazing new games to look forward to in the coming months.

The last time that Microsoft discussed the Xbox One’s sales figures was in April, where they announced that the console had shipped over 5+ million units. Around the same time Sony announced they had sold-through 7+ million units, with the latest reports putting the console at around 9 million globally. Microsoft hasn’t commented on totals since April, but between the console’s expansion into an additional 26 markets this September and the impressive holiday lineup inching closer every week, expect all console sales to increase as we get closer to the November/December season.
