The Xbox One has gotten its official Japanese launch date, as well as launch software and price point. On September 4th, some 10 months after the original 13 launch markets, Microsoft will be releasing its latest console to Japanese consumers. Those who will be looking to purchase the console can expect a console that’s actually slightly cheaper than here in the US. The console will retail with Kinect at ¥49,980 (around $489.66), and at ¥39,980 (roughly $391.69) for the Kinectless SKU.
As for launch games, Japanese gamers will be able to grab all the first/second-party titles (Forza Motorsport 5, Dead Rising 3, Ryse: Son of Rome, and Kinect Sports Rivals) as well as Square Enix’s Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Thief, Murdered: Soul Suspect, and Call of Duty: Ghosts. There are an additional 44 Japanese development studios that are registered for development for Xbox One, but at this time no other third-party games have been announced at this time. As the launch date approaches we’ll no doubt see that list improve.
Traditionally the Xbox brand hasn’t faired all that well in the Japanese market, but there are a few ways that Microsoft can ensure that their console is successful in the Land of the Rising One.
