Sunset Overdrive gets some new screenshots and there’s one word for them – “Colorful”

Goodbye generic grey-brown military shooter, hello Sunset Overdrive! Every glimpse of Insomniac’s forthcoming open-world “post-catastrophic” adventure leaves me with a select few words: Choice, Color and Chaos. And if what we saw on Microsoft’s E3 stage last year didn’t send that message clear enough, the hands-on that the folks over at OXM recently got sure does. From the ability to craft weapons out of just about everything in your environment, to the ability to apply any combination of your character’s body type, race, tattoos, body paint and clothes – regardless of which sex you decide to play as – it seems safe to say that individuality was one of the driving factors behind the game’s design.

From the aforementioned character customization, to the world itself, Sunset Overdrive is a game that revels in being a game, and it’s looking to be one of the most unique titles to reach an Xbox platform in quite some time – or at least the most colorful. I would say it myself, but I feel that OXM pretty much hit the nail on the head with this one:

From moody muted color palettes to super-serious stories of loss and heartache, The End Times are often portrayed as something to be glum about. Sunset Overdrive’s alternate view of the apocalypse offers a vibrant world with a bubble-gum sheen and a PMA that says have fun, go mad. Having experienced a handful of its wacky weapons and got to grips with its free-flowing traversal mechanics I’m optimistic that, come the end of the world, there will be plenty to smile about.

Below is a gallery of screenshots from their hands-on. Enjoy!
