Microsoft officially unveils DirectX 12, says it will make Xbox One games better

DirectX-12

Earlier today at GDC in San Francisco, Microsoft formally introduced the world to DirectX 12. According to the software giant, the latest edition of its graphics API will give developers more direct control over their game’s visuals than ever before thanks to new rendering tools.  And of course these new gains will also improve the way Xbox One games are made.

“Xbox One games will see improved performance and we’ll bring the same API to all Microsoft platforms,” said Microsoft’s development manager for graphics Anuj Gosalia during today’s GDC presentation.

Microsoft wants DirectX 12 to function like a console’s API, which could make that platform easier to use.

During the presentation, Chris Tector of Turn 10 Studios showed a demo of Forza Motorsport 5 running through Direct3D 12 on PC. The demonstration was used to showcase how Direct3D 12 could be used to efficiently use hardware without compromising performance.

A preview of DirectX is scheduled to be released sometime later this year.
