If there’s one thing that’s great about making a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously, it’s the fun it can have at both its own expense, and at the expense of those around it.

As you’re probably already aware, the studio and publisher behind the latest Assassin’s Creed game, Assassin’s Creed Unity, currently find themselves in a bit of hot water after a few somewhat confrontational responses to fans. When players asked why female assassin’s were excluded from Unity, they were told that the playable females “had to” be cut because “it was really a lot of extra production work.”

Enter Sunset Overdrive. As a game – and studio in general – that prides itself on letting the player be exactly who they want to be and do exactly what they want to do. And in today’s episode of Sunset TV, we’re given an example of both this freedom, and of Insomniac’s playful spirit.

You won’t hear the word “assassin” or any mention of Ubisoft’s kerfuffle anywhere in the video, but a brief glimpse from the latest promo clip for the upcoming Xbox One exclusive makes it impossible to mistake who Insomniac are taking a jab at.
