In stark contrast to what the vast majority of the internet would have you believe, rumors of the Xbox One’s eSRAM handicap have been greatly exaggerated, according to the Senior Design Producer of Square Enix’s Murdered: Soul Suspect, Eric Studer.
In a recent interview with GamingBolt, Studer confirmed that the game would be running at 1080p/30fps on both the Xbox One and the PS4.
“I can in fact confirm that Murdered will run 1080p on both Xbox One and PS4; we have decided to lock the frames at 30 for this product.”
This took a great many people off guard considering the number of multi-platform titles that have been running at a lower resolution and/or frame-rate on the Xbox One. When asked whether or not Airtight faced any development challenges with the Xbox One’s eSRAM, Studer replied with, “I’m not an overly technical guy, but I don’t recall hearing about any hurdles on the eSRAM.”
Clearly every studio approaches development differently, so some will be running into hardware limitations were others won’t, but it’s nice to see the list of titles encountering eSRAM bottlenecks is starting to diminish. As development tools evolve and the next installment of Microsoft’s low-level graphics API starts rolling out, the subject of resolutiongate will soon be a thing of the past.
(Thank god!)
