Today, Microsoft announced that it’s sold over 3 million Xbox Ones in 2013. The company’s new console launched on November 22nd in the US and finished the year in 13 different markets.
“The reaction from our fans was mind-blowing for our team. As we see your excitement, your energy and your hours of gameplay, we continue to be inspired to do great work – for you,” said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing, strategy and business for Xbox. ”Whether you’re racing through the streets of Prague in Forza Motorsport 5, creating crazy weapons for zombie destruction in Dead Rising 3, exploring the Colosseum in Gladiator mode in Ryse: Son of Rome, helping your children create their own personal zoo in Zoo Tycoon, or enjoying epic multiplayer battles, we love that you’re having fun on Xbox One.”
Just prior to the launch of the PS4, Sony projected that it would sell 3 million units after launching in 32 countries. In spite of a later release and higher price tag, Microsoft has accomplished this with a retail release in less than half the markets of Sony’s new console. Sony has yet to announce PS4 sales figures for 2013, so it’ll be interesting to see how the two new consoles compared to each other during the holiday rush.
