Earlier this week, word spread that Target experienced a serious security breach that involved around 40 million of customers’ bank and credit card information. The company has stepped forward to confirm the situation and if you frequent Tarjay, here’s a few things you should know.
The breach only applies to physical retail stores, so online shoppers should actually be safe. The incident took place during the week of Black Friday (November 27th) and was reportedly resolved on December 15th. So if you shopped at Target during this period, you’ll definitely want to keep an eye on your financial accounts and credit reports. You’re entitled to a free copy of your credit report every 12 months and Target suggests that you visit this place to get yours.
The information that was compromised includes customer names, credit and bank card numbers, CVV numbers (the three digit code on the back of your card) and expiration dates.
Feel free to contact your financial institutions about the situation, however Target says it already has. So, if you if you’re among the unlucky group who’ve been compromised, you’ll likely receive notification from your bank.
