Ebay scam victim pays £450 for a picture of an XBox One

Xbox-Scam

After forking out £450 (around $734.72) for an Xbox One on eBay, Peter Clatworthy was very angry to find out that he actually purchased a picture of Microsoft’s new console instead of an actual system.

“I’ve had to make a joke out of it because I was that angry. At least we’ve now got something to laugh about in the years to come,” said Clatworthy. “I always buy stuff on eBay and this had never happened before.”

Sadly, the eBay listing wasn’t a complete scam, it actually stated that the item was a photo, but Clatworthy still thought otherwise.

“It said ‘photo’ and I was in two minds, but I looked at the description and the fact it was in the right category made me think it was genuine,” he said. “I looked at the seller’s feedback and there was nothing negative. I bought it there and then because I thought it was a good deal.”

In spite of avoiding the listing’s details, Clatworthy was wise enough to pay with PayPal and will be receiving a full refund.

So, what have we learned? If you ever have any doubts about any eBay auctions just stay away and remember, always pay with PayPal if you can.
