The Xbox One is nearly upon us and with it comes a mandatory day one system patch. Without said patch, your shiny new system is pretty much a $500 paperweight, so you’ll definitely need it. But what if my internet connection fails on day one and my console can’t get online? It appears that Microsoft has a backup plan.
Listed in the archives of the Xbox One’s support page is what’s known as an Emergency Offline Update (EOU). This particular procedure walks you through the steps of formatting a USB drive, downloading the latest system software and applying it to your console.
While updating your console directly from within its dashboard is always the easiest route, this method provides a reasonable alternative if your console or Xbox Live are network having issues.
