PlayStation 4 launched last week with Twitch integration that works flawlessly. Players can livestream their gameplay to the world, but Sony was not the first to announce Twitch integration. Microsoft promised Twitch livestreaming and viewing to gamers first and it’s still on the way, it just won’t be available at launch.
When the Xbox One released on Friday, you will not be able to stream games on Twitch. That functionality for the Twitch app won’t be ready until the “first part of 2014,” according to Microsoft. You’ll still be able to watch livestreams using the app and it even has achievements, but you won’t be able to broadcast your gameplay unless you have an external capture card.
This is definitely a blow for Microsoft, who touted Twitch integration at E3 and received plenty of press for including the popular service over Ustream, the original service Sony announced for PlayStation 4 before including Twitch integration as well.
