Most of us are still enjoying all the new features that came with Xbox One’s June update, including support for external hard drives, real name sharing and more fine control over the volume mixer. But right at the closing of E3 Microsoft is already eager to talk about what they have cooked up for July.
For starters, you will now be able to snap the achievements app so you won’t have to leave your game in order to check your progress. Simply say “Xbox, Snap Achievements” and they’ll pop up like any other app that can be snapped.
The other big update actually negates the need to say the snap command at all: you can now snap apps by double tapping the dashboard button while no app is snapped. You’ll get a list of apps on your console that can be snapped, and once you select one it will populate with the relevant information and UI.
This is basically a quick way of hitting the dashboard button and pressing the snap button on the dashboard itself, which some people opt to do if they don’t have a Kinect or feel like hooking their Kinect up. It’s especially important that Microsoft begins implementing features that make Xbox One life easy without Kinect as the company has decided to make a Kinect-less Xbox One SKU.
Other changes include the ability o “like” GameDVR clips, some early framework building for a feature that will allow developers to offer more complex digital packages (such as video and games in one download), and the ability for folks in New Zealand, Austria and Ireland to issue Kinect commands in their language of choice either through English or German language options.
Of course, the updates aren’t rolling out until next month for those who aren’t in the preview program. For those who are? Microsoft is likely going to get it on the rollout schedule by the end of this month. Find some of these new features in action by watching the video above.
