Microsoft reveals Crackdown reboot designed by the series’ original creative director

When Microsoft first announced the Xbox One early last year we saw hints that new life would be breathed into the Crackdown series. The game’s logo snuck its way into several press materials early on, though Microsoft left it up to our imagination and speculation to figure out why.

The why has finally been answered though — this is the new Crackdown. Microsoft is marketing the game more as a remake or reboot than a direct sequel to Crackdown 2. They drove that point home a few different ways:

  • The game is simply titled “Crackdown”
  • They brought on the original creative director from the first Crackdown game to help get the series back to its roots
  • They pretty much admitted that Crackdown 2 sucked, and probably hope you have forgotten everything about its existence by now.

All of that is exciting enough to make us a pay attention, and the first trailer they’ve dropped for the game certainly adds to said excitement. There aren’t many details about the game just yet but you can expect there to be some co-op fun between you and at least one other Agent buddy (we’re keeping our fingers crossed that they’re upping the ante to four-player co-op, of course).

The trailer itself revealed that familiar cel-shaded Crackdown art style we’ve all come to know and love, as well as the over-the-top action you’ll be able to partake in. We imagine the Agents — the game’s protagonists — will also be juiced up with super human strength, extreme jumping ability and more. Be sure to take a look in the 2 minute trailer from E3 above.
