E3 2014 is right around the corner, and as such, rumors (and rumors of rumors) are running wild about what we’ll see. According to industry insider Shinobi602, we probably won’t be getting the original multiplayer in the anniversary release of Halo 2. When twitter user “FuRyAn_HaVoC” mentioned that he was planning on buying an Xbox One just for the original Halo 2 multiplayer experience, Shinobi602 had this to say:
Normally such a statement would devastate me, but when you consider the fan-backlash oriented towards the multiplayer of Halo’s most recent installment, as well as the fact that Phil Spencer himself discussed exactly what 343i would need to do were they to remake Halo 2, I’m calling bull on this one.
Spencer’s statements were later brought up to Shinobi602, where he expressed confidence in his source, but also voiced a similar opinion to that of my own, stating that “I’d just wait until E3, hope Phil’s right,” and that he hopes his insider is wrong.
Considering the situation that 343 finds itself in, as well as Microsoft as a whole, were they to release an anniversary remake of Halo 2 with any other game’s multiplayer, they would have not only a very disappointed media response, but a furious horde of long-time Halo gamers that have been longing for Halo 2‘s gameplay since the servers were shut down in April of 2010.
If Microsoft wants to regain the support of long-time fans that have jumped ship to the PS4, an HD remake of Halo 2 with its ORIGINAL multiplayer is the way to do it. Attempting to rerelease Halo 2 in any other fashion is a recipe for disaster. Because of this, combined with Spencer’s aforementioned remake suggestions, there’s absolutely no stock that I place in this rumor. But that’s just my opinion.
What about you? Would you be rioting along side me were Microsoft/343 to release a Halo 2 remake with Halo 4‘s multiplayer? Or would that be fine by you? Let us know down below!
