Are you a fan of the linear level-by-level story-progression design of Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo: Reach and Halo 4? Or did you prefer the open-ish-world approach that Bungie took with Halo 3: ODST? If the latter is more your cup of tea, then I’ve got some good, and completely unsubstantiated, news for you! According to industry insider “thuway”, aka Ashan Rasheed, 343i’s next installment of the Halo franchise, fan-dubbed Halo 5, is going back to 2009′s open-world level design.
Opinions are mixed on the idea of another open-world Halo title, and even as someone who would consider himself a big fan of Bungie’s direction of Halo 3: ODST, I too find myself having trouble wrapping my mind around the idea of a main-installment Halo title making such a drastic change to the Halo formula. I mean, 343i took a chance by switching up the basic gameplay of the franchise, and look how well that ended up going.
Clearly these rumors are just that – rumors – but for the sake of discussion, would you be okay with another open-world Halo adventure like the one we got in ODST? Or would you rather 343i go back to the basics of Halo before trying anything too far off the beaten path? Let us know below!
