Let’s make no doubt about it: there is an outrageously high level of competition between Sony and Microsoft for the PS4 and Xbox One. Competition can be both fierce and friendly, as witnessed by the congratulatory tweets sent between the companies for successful console launches. But is something more sinister going on beneath the surface?
Many people make purchase decisions based on the star ratings found on Amazon. While hardcore gamers may know what console they want, parents making gift purchase decisions may be relying on reviews found online. If they looked now, they’d see an avalanche of terrible 1-star reviews for the Xbox One on Amazon, but it seems these reviews may be fake or fraudulent.
The fact that customers are so diabolically split seems fishy. Digging further into the details we can see that the vast majority of 1-star reviews are from unverified Amazon accounts, leading us to believe that these are fraudulent 1-star reviews from people trying to drag the Xbox One’s star rating down.
A certain percentage of these 1-star reviews are most likely from PS4 fanboys with nothing better to do with their life, like the top review for example:
Piece of junk. PS4 is ssoooooo much better. I cried my eyes out when I first played it, ran to the store (25 miles) to trade it in for a glorious PS4, which has no problems and was clearly designed by hyper intelligent alien superbeings vs the xbox which was designed by the American Consumer Trap Corporation that exploits fat American consumers for all of their welfare dollars.
Do you hear that? Shhhh. Listen… that’s the sound of an embarrassingly blind lemming jumping off a brand loyalty cliff.
This could also be part of a strategic attack on star reviews to artificially inflate sales of competing consoles such as the PS4 or Wii U. Could Sony or Nintendo themselves be behind such an underhanded mission? It’s certainly possible, but that’s an accusational stretch we’re not willing to make. But yes, it’s possible.
Then there’s another form of 1-star review that really makes me mad: people giving 1-star for Amazon’s delivery failures or delays or other issues not related to the product itself. You’re not supposed to be reviewing Amazon’s service, people, that’s not the purpose of these product-level star ratings! It’s such a shame for Microsoft to create a brilliant console and be punished for factors not within their control.
Did you buy your Xbox One from Amazon? What star rating did you give your console? Why do you think the Xbox One is getting so many 1-star reviews?
