BioWare discusses Mass Effect 4 – Sexual inclusivity is important and the Xbox One is “pretty awesome”

Mass Effect Trilogy

Over the weekend BioWare let slip a few details regarding the next installment of they’re highly acclaimed space opera. During a Q&A session following their panel at PAX East, writer Cathleen Rootsaert and art director Joel MacMillan were asked about what romance options the game might support, as well as what platforms we could expect the title to release on. Of course they were tight-lipped on the setting and plot, but the discussion of anything is more than welcomed at this point!

When asked if the next Mass Effect will allow for same-sex and inter-species relationships, Rootsaert said:

“We can’t divulge that. But, I’ll just say that inclusivity is part of the BioWare mandate. So, we do our best.”

In a follow-up question, another fan asked about what platforms BioWare is considering for the next Mass Effect title. MacMillan offered what I consider to be an indication that the game would definitely (obviously) be making its way to the Xbox One.

“It’s kind of tricky to officially comment on that, but I mean, gen. 4 [being Xbox One and PS4] looks pretty awesome and Mass Effect’s an awesome-looking game.”

These not-answers are clear indications that BioWare isn’t quite ready to publicize any details of the project that everyone knows they’re working on, but that isn’t stopping the developers from dropping hints wherever they think they can get away with it.

Does this ‘news’ excite you? Or are these ‘updates’ fairly understood at this point in development? Either way, it gave me an excuse to bring up Mass Effect, and I gladly jumped on the opportunity! This is a franchise that should be enjoyed by everyone who enjoys a sci-fi epic, so I’ll do everything I can to add to the Mass Effect hype train!
